Hello There was some discussion on one of the sites, possibly one I have been excommunicated from where the thought police rule supreme about Eric Clapton and the PowerHouse. I think it was called the Eric Clapton Music Lovers world wide site with the illustrated man as one of the administrators.Their loss my gain! Anyway I was re-reading Joe Boyds book called White Bicycles -making music in the 60s.If you are interested in the 60s and the underground scene in London etc read it- Joe Boyd is a legend and one of the handful of people that shaped the 60s! He covers the formation of the Powerhouse with an anecdote which I will paraphrase - Joe Boyd was trying to put together a blues supergroup in London in the mid 60s and he was struggling until Paul Jones took over and assembled an early supergroup of Stevie Winwood, JB, Ginger Baker. Ben Palmer and Paul himself on harp. Ginger could not do it so he was replaced by Peter York drummer with Spencer Davis. Song list - well Paul chose an Otis Rush number I got to know and Stevie chose Stepping Out as at that time EC did not sing.Clapton originally chose Cross cut saw an Albert King track but after discussion with Joe Boyd - they talked about doing a Robert Johnson number and Joe suggested Standing at the Cross roads and Eric countered with traveling riverside blues.Eric combined the lick of Riverside Blues with the lyrics of crossroads, Stevie sand it and a classic was born. Any way I bumped into Joe Boyd several years ago as I had sort of known him and been in his company back in the day - we discussed Middle Earth, UFO and the Roundhouse -so I asked him to sign my copy of his book and here it is.There is also a CD to go with it which he also signed for me
