Hello! This is lengthy, but please read! Wow what a day!! Archie has been to the dentist today, for him thats a treat as he has a fab relationship with Dr Bhavini. He has been attending the local Community Dental Service for around 3 years. For some, in fact most, the dentist is somewhat daunting. However, Archie has succeeded and pushed the boundaries of autism for sure. Today, I told him it was different dentist. Didnt expand, but kept language simple. The result...Archie underwent tartar treatment with an ultrasonic wand and the hoover, suction. This was not the end as...he has had 2 sets of xrays!!!! I did insist on wearing a lead apron and being there for him, but between us we managed it and importantly it was as all round positive experience. The xray involved him elevating and supporting his chin on a rest, biting a mouth clamp and the machine rotating, beeping and enclosing his head. I only had to hold his hands on the rests and crouch behind offering constant reassurance. This would not have been possible a year ago!! Trust this post offers encouragement to other parents whos children find life somewhat challenging. Time, lots of time, patience, lots of patience and a good sense of humour will let you achieve the unachievable!! So, so, so, proud. Again, thank you Daisy Dolphin xxx
