Hello again my friends! First, wow. I am simply amazed at the amount of responses I have already received in this survey project. In less than 24 hours, my predicted number of responses has been blown out of the water! I expected only 20% of the number of responses I have received in the past 24 hours! So thank you everyone who took the time to complete this survey. If you have not taken the survey yet, I still want your responses. The more responses I get, the better data pool I have. Second, I would to address some concerns about the survey I have seen in the comments section, Facebook posts, and private messages. Several people have questioned how this survey can benefit recruitment and retention. They have correctly identified that the survey is covering demographic information and interests. How does this aid with recruitment and retention? So, allow to explain my thought process behind this. As I said in my announcement post, I have found no existing data regarding who plays and why they play. All I have found is membership numbers. Those numbers dont answer the who and why questions. I am sure we all feel we can answer those questions based on our personal experiences in this Kingdom, but data is necessary. So, I needed to find and develop that data. This data can be used to examine correlations, trends, and other information, that once extrapolated and defined, have definite potential as a base for future questions and actions. If we know who plays, how they got started, and what they like, we can use that to help clarify our recruitment and retention efforts. We can also use it to develop new questions for the future. Think of this in regards to building a house. You start with the foundation and this data helps serve as that foundation. With this foundation, we can erect supports, and walls, and a roof. Data and research also builds upon itself, and it is my hope that this examination leads to further, more detailed and nuanced surveys. As I said, this is a test run survey to see what the data shakes out. My master plan is to eventually run a Society wide three phase survey, but before I can do that, I need to start small and basic and see how it goes in terms of information. And I need to learn from my respondents so I can refine my approach. Already several individuals have questioned why X or Y question is being asked, or why A and B question were not asked. These types of responses are valuable for future projects. I do not expect this survey to provide us with a magic bullet that will solve all of our recruitment and retention concerns. I also do not expect this survey will cover every aspect of the Society or Kingdom to everybodys satisfaction. It is not designed too. What it is designed to do is provide us with general data that can be utilized towards these goals and even used to expand into further research.
