Hello all, A quick Photoshop tip for you today. In my opinion, Photoshop cannot be beaten when it comes to the cloning and healing brushes. Lightroom is great when you have a few skin imperfections, but anything more extensive is where Photoshop becomes the right tool the the right job. There arent too many Photoshop users who dont know how to use the clone and heal tools. But there are many who use them incorrectly. With the beauty of layers, the primary goal behind Photoshop is to make changes to your image that arent permanent. Not even the best photographers get it right the first time. So its always best to make changes that can be modified later in the process. The mistake that many users make with the clone and heal tools is that they apply them on the same layer as the image. This is considered to be a destructive form of editing, as you arent able to go back and alter the changes if you arent satisfied with the result. The best way to carry out cloning and healing on a new layer (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + N). Once you have your clone or heal brush selected, there is an option just below the toolbar where you can choose to carry out your cloning on the Current Layer, the Current layer and Below, or All layers. Since you are on a blank layer, the Current layer is not the right option, as the clone and heal brushes have nothing to copy off of. Current Layer and Below or All Layers are the right options in this case, as the tools can copy off of the original layer while applying the clone or heal on a blank layer. Since the cloning and healing are done on a separate layer, it is much easier to reduce the opacity of the layer, erase areas that you arent happy with and apply extra effects to your changes. Photoshops biggest advantage is the ability to work in layers. So the best advice is to utilise this ability to make your workflow easier and your effects seamless. I hope this helps. Dean
