Hello all, After posting my exhaust leak, stuck float questions - TopicsExpress

Hello all, After posting my exhaust leak, stuck float questions regarding my ran great when it was parked model 50. I took everyones advise and removed the carburetors (havent investigated them yet) and I removed the intake/exhaust manifolds. For once, the rust gods were kind to me and I managed to remove all the bolts in once piece. Before doing a tap dance though, after following Gary Clarks advice I investigated the area on the cylinder head where the gasket blew out (RH side, outboard edge). I put a straight edge down on the head and it is indeed NOT square. The outboard edge tapers off, about the thickness of the gasket between the carb and the carb inlet pipe (See photographs). So, although dodging the bullet on the broken studs, it appears as though Im SOL with regards to the head. Im guessing that it will just blow out a new gasket at some point since the gasket will have no visible means of support?? Does this mean I will now need to replace the cylinder head, or is this a normal type situation, and the gasket will be thick enough to compensate? Would love once again, to hear everyones opinion/advice on my next step, short of jumping off a bridge. I really feel like George Bailey at the moment and need a second class Angel to save me. Merry Christmas to all and I look forward to any responses :) Dear George, remember no man is a failure who has friends. Thanks for the wings, Love Clarence (quote from Its a Wonderful Life)
