Hello all, We at Lost-and Found Pets Staten Island would like to - TopicsExpress

Hello all, We at Lost-and Found Pets Staten Island would like to clarify a few misconceptions about our page as we have been seeing some negative comments lately that we feel we should address: #1: We understand that not everyone can keep lost animals in their homes long term for many reasons. However, we are asking that before dropping a lost, confused pet a high kill shelter you take a photo, contact our page, ring a few bells in the neighborhood, or perhaps create a flyer (or contact us so we can) Some reasons we feel this way are that its one less cage occupied in a high kill shelter- which may lead to one less life being taken. Also, the shelter can get a healthy, family pet sick. In addition, if owner doesnt show up in 72 hrs that animals life may be in jeopardy. . #2: We disagree with shelter policies and politics and do think it needs reform however we LOVE and respect shelter workers and volunteers. We often work together to help reunite pets. It is a very difficult and disheartening job and we are grateful to those who do it because we never could. Do not bash them on this page! #3: We absolutely do not encourage lost pets to be passed around to random strangers. This is dangerous and irresponsible. We ask people to pm us and we guide them to a rescue or we prescreen them ourselves. If we provide a finders contact info we are working closely with them and helping out with the process. Unfortunately some followers of this page have been posing as members of the page and they werent so we want everyone aware of this. There are some sick people out there who would hold a found dog hostage and refuse assistance of professionals willing to help #4 We are not a rescue, but we are experienced volunteers and/or fosters who work with reputable rescues and are very familiar with the shelter system, as well as prescreening fosters and adopters. Sometimes rescues are overwhelmed and cannot take in another animal. We try our best to find them good homes as the amount of animals in need is never-ending. * we know there will always be criticism and people scrutinizing, but know that we are doing the best we can and we are proud to say our followers and we (all 5,664 of us) have assisted hundreds of animals find their way home or to a new, safe home :)
