Hello dear neighbors, On October 31st, Brian Midkiff died - TopicsExpress

Hello dear neighbors, On October 31st, Brian Midkiff died suddenly in his home. He was found by his sister, Janice Harris, at around 4PM, after he had not responded to several texts and calls that day. They were planning a cookout for Halloween evening at Janice and Freds home.(Our community Halloween party was held at Janice & Freds place, and Brian was cooking the hotdogs.) It was determined a heart attack,(or something heart related), took Brian quickly and without pain. Needless to say, Brians family and close friends are still in shock, and with a lot of pain. For those who did not have the good fortune of knowing Brian, he was a huge part of our community. He was always the first one there to help and the last one to leave. Even though he did not technically live in Engleside, he gave so much of his time to our neighborhood. He cared for this community as if it was his own. Every event, any meeting or party we have had, Brian was involved on some level. Doing the things that needed to be done, no matter how small or large. Henceforth, Brian Midkiff will be considered an honorary neighbor of Engleside. He was also a baseball coach, and passed on his love for the game to many, many youths through coaching. He loved kids and brought out the best in each and every one of them. The loss of Brian will be felt forever more on the baseball field as well. In addition, Brian touched so many people, in such a short time. He recently moved to Skyview Apartments, and his neighbors, (who have only known him for a couple of months), were moved to tears from the tragic news.Because when you first met Brian, you felt like you had known him forever. He had a way that made one feel comfort and ease. He could make you laugh on the worst day of your life, a gift very few people have. I wish our new neighbors got to know him better. The family will be having a viewing on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315, 703.971.7400, from 2-4PM. Brians obituary will be up on the Jefferson website tomorrow morning after 9AM, jeffersonfuneralchapel/obituary ,at which time you can click on his name, leave a message for the family if you wish, and get directions to the funeral home. The family is accepting flowers and donations, which may be sent to Jefferson Funeral Home or to Mr. & Mrs. Fred and Janice Harris, 5118 Rosemont Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22309. An informal memorial service/event will be held at a later date. Please keep Janice, Fred & their family in your thoughts and prayers now, and in the weeks to come. This tragedy is such a shock to us all, and they will need all the support we can give. Bless you and your family, Karen Pohorylo Engleside Civic Association
