Hello everyone! I am new to the group so I wanted to tell you a little about myself....I am hoping that maybe my story can help encourage others to find strength in themselves to fight this thing like I have. It has been very empowering! So here is a Iittle of my story......I am 33 years old and was diagnosed with MS a little over 2 years ago. It started with optic neuritis, massive headaches, and weird dizzy/near blackout episodes, then moved on to my legs, causing severe pain, weakness, loss of balance, etc. (especially in my left leg). Within a year I had to use a cane especially for any kind of distance because I had such terrible pain and weakness. My left arm became increasingly weak as well. I was relapsing every couple months (though technically I never had a real remission phase) and going through Solumedrol treatments constantly. I tried Copaxone and Tecfidera and continued to go downhill. Early this year I was at the worst I had been...sick constantly from medicinal side effects, getting increasingly disabled so I had to use a cane all the time, horribly depressed and just altogether FRUSTRATED! (I am sure you all can relate!) At this point, I became very determined to find a way to help myself! So this is where the change begins...... I know this may sound crazy but when I set my mind to something, especially when it comes to MY OWN health and well being, I wont quit! SO, I decided since the meds werent helping me anyway and I was having so many side effects, I was going to see how things would be without them for a while. I decided that I needed to change my lifestyle to be more healthy and active. In addition to the MS, I had always struggled with my weight and the change in my activity level had decreased so much from struggling with the disability that I had become the biggest I had ever been too! Enough was enough all the way around! So I started eating healthy and counting my calorie intake and drinking Shakeology (one of the overall healthiest things I have ever put in my body!) and getting myself into an active lifestyle. I did some Physical Therapy at home for a couple weeks and then began an at home workout program. Within one month, I had lost 22 lbs and 2 sizes and was 100 percent without a cane! Long story short, it has now been 4 months....I work out 3-4 times a week, can walk 5 miles with no problem, and have lost 45 lbs and 4 sizes!!! I am 100% medicine free, have almost no pain, have the best balance and stamina I have ever had and have not relapsed at all!! I am a firm believer that if you have faith, believe in yourself and work really hard..anything is possible!! I was sure I was going to be in a wheelchair by the time I turned 40 but now I have hope because I have taken control! I just dont believe that the doctors always are really thinking about you and your best interests. I have an excellent family doctor who is extremely supportive of what I am doing. It just has seemed that all of the neurologists have another agenda. I hope not everyone feels like that, but after 5 different neuros and piles of new meds, I kept coming to the same conclusion so I had to try something else and I will tell you....I have never felt so healthy in my life!! I hope my little personal story will at least touch someones life and give them hope. I am starting a free FB group called Fighting MS with Fitness and Nutrition where I am hoping to help others who would like some support and motivation, along with fitness and nutrition ideas, to guide them on their own personal journey to wellness. Since my life has changed so much, I decided to become a fitness coach and help others like me to change their lives in a positive way as well! Please comment below if you would like me to add you to my group. We are all in this together and I would be honored to help anyone who is interested! Thank you all so much for taking the time to get to know me and my story! Feel free to friend me or follow me on FB as I continue my journey and hopefully I can help you on yours!!
