Hello everyone! Thank you for joining my group and taking the time to read about what I will be participating in this summer. For those of you who havent heard about Global Dental Relief, it is a nonprofit organization that sets up clinics throughout the world for children. Often these children have no access to dental care; and even share 1 toothbrush for an entire family. Many of us take access to dental care for granted and do not realize what an impact oral hygiene has on our lives. Some of these children will have decaying teeth and gum disease so bad that they will be forced out of school due to pain. When they no longer have access to an education, they do not become as successful of a member of the community as they could have been. GDR makes it their mission and duty to visit these places every two years to ensure that these remote villages have constant access to dental care and will integrate dental care into their daily routines which can be passed on for generations. On this trip I will be going with many other doctors, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and non dental volunteers to help set up a 5 day clinic. Within 5 days we will see about 800 children. Every dollar donated has a value to these children. Every cent is spent on supplies and equipment to help in providing these children with the proper dental care. As many of you know, I am studying biology at Indiana University Northwest. These next few months are very important as I am preparing my for my Dental Admission Test, DAT, and starting the application process. Through this important time of my live I have spent a many hours fundraising and will continue to throughout this journey. This trip costs about $2,500 which will include the price of the program, meals, lodging, and international airline tickets from the US and Guatemala transportation.
