Hello everyone! Well. First, I stumbled upon this group through Humeras post and then read through all the introductions and then finally, through the draft proposal. I must say this looks like what is about to become a book haven and I was really thrilled to find it (I have already excitedly made a list of all the recommendations and am planning on reading them) It is also the reason I wanted to join, ofcourse. Books, books and more books. Read by what looks like a great bunch of people! However, the proposal seemed more like an exam and kind of scared me. Hahah. But the love for reading took over and I thought, hey! They are all like me, lets give it a go. Also, I really wanted to write an introduction. So here I am. Writing an introduction. Oh by the way, I like writing too. I mean not professionally, but just, writing. For the sake of it. I think that much is clear though. Hahah. Second, like everyone here, I am a book lover; cant understand why someone wouldnt love them, but then again, everyone has their own way of feeding their imagination and books are only one of the many ways to do that. I have been reading and collecting books since I was a child, and ofcourse, then, I started off with Enid Blyton. I have read each and every one of her series: Famous Five, Secret Seven, Adventure Series, Malory Towers, Mystery series.. you name it. As I grew up, I grew out of my undying love for them, but I have a fondness for them all the same, especially since they are a part of why I actually started to like reading. The very first book I read was House at the Corner by Enid Blyton and I loved it. And (lets make it the third point) then I moved on to the likes of Harry Potter (yes I am a Potter Head and a proud one at that. Have read the books again and again millions of times and never got tired of it) and Agatha Christie (ah Poirot. That man) and Twilight series (Okay I did love them before they made the movies and cast Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan and put the whole worlds face powder on Edwards face. They were really nice in my head, they were!) and ofcourse, Meg Cabot (LOVE her writing. Actually the girls in her novels are kind of like me, so I can relate. Yes, all the thinking too much in my head and making a mess with good intentions; the whole package) and nowadays I am reading Sophie Kinsella. Again, can relate to the girls. Her writing as Madeleine Wickham is nice too. Actually I kind of started watching more TV shows and movies when I joined university, and started reading less books (It HAPPENED. It really DID. And I hate myself for it) but then I started reading like a maniac again because well, who can replace books eh? And dont judge me but I started off with Enid Blyton again, then J.K Rowling then.. well you get the point. So I was in deperate need of new GOOD book recommendations. And then I found this group. So you guys are in a way my path to good books. Dont abandon me alright? Oh and before you pin me down as a girly girl who only likes sappy romantic chick lits and fantasy novels, I would like to clarify why I do. I dont like historical books. Or non fiction. (Alot of you DO love them, I know, from your introductions, and I dont hold it againt you, really. I am actually in awe, because I WISH I could invoke some interest in them, but havent been able to, so far) Its just that I like happy endings. Oh alright, I READ because of the happy endings. I read to make myself happy. And the chick lits do that for me. I am, ofcourse, open to ANYTHING else that makes me happy. I mean, even if it has a little history in it. I know nothing is all rainbows and butterflies, but in my little bubble everything is. Pitch in a few unicorns too. Hahah. Books are part of my little bubble so I tend to read stuff that doesnt burst it. But I am an open-minded person. I do, for example, read Paolo Coelho, Khaled Hosseini, Stephen King and sometimes anything I can put my hands on; just to escape from reality for a little bit. (And I see most of you can relate to that fact) Okay I dont remember what number I am on now, but Ill make it quick because I think I have written way more than what was needed. Hahah. I cannot read ebooks. I tried. I couldnt. Paperbacks smell great, they feel great, the way they are stacked there on the shelves just WAITING to be read makes my heart race (yes I can spend hours in a book store if I have to) and I can actually feel myself having a bond with the book when its in my hand, you know? So yes, if I can find all the books you guys have already recommended in your introductions and comments in paperbacks, you have contributed to a huge smile on my face and I thank you for that. Oh and also for actually reading the whole of this introduction and not giving up half way through. Hahah. I hope to make new friends, find amazing books waiting to be read, and even explore new genres (lets face it, I really need to) by joining this group. I think I will stop talking/writing now. Basically, the bottom line is, Hi. Im Laraib. Kind of crazy, but love books. ESPECIALLY the ones with happy endings. P.S I believe in magic.
