Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Sunday Standard Deck Demolition. I take a look at the most popular decks in the current meta game on a weekly basis and post up a list from the popular archetype that recently won a major tournament. I then go through the list and pick out the cards you need to deal with in order to help you defeat your opponents who play these decks. Ive already covered the four most popular decks(Abzan Midrange, Jeskai Tempo, Mardu Midrange, and finally Mono Green Devotion). The list that Ill be featuring today is the fifth most popular deck(According to 5 different Magic the Gathering deck list websites) which is Abzan Aggro. Ive take a thorough look over each of the archetypes decklist and I can see why this deck continues to be played and wins. Heres the latest list that won an event. ABZAN AGGRO 1st place by Shimada Masahiko 4 Rakshasa Deathdealer 3 Heir of the Wilds 4 Fleecemane Lion 4 Anafenza, the Foremost 4 Siege Rhino 2 Wingmate Roc 3 Bile Blight 3 Heros Downfall 3 Abzan Charm 3 Thoughtseize 2 Sorin, Solemn Visitor 4 Sandsteppe Citadel 4 Caves of Koilos 4 Temple of Malady 2 Llanowar Wastes 2 Temple of Silence 2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth 3 Windswept Heath 1 Mana Confluence 1 Plains 2 Forest SIDEBOARD 2 Murderous Cut 2 Drown in Sorrow 2 Wingmate Roc 2 Glare of Heresy 1 Thoughtseize 3 Back to Nature 1 Elspeth, Suns Champion 1 Read the Bones 1 Bile Blight In order for you to be able to beat this deck you need to deal with Rakshasa Deathdealer, Anafenza, the Foremost, and Siege Rhino. Rakshasa Deathdealer is definitely a hard one to deal with because of its two abilities. Anafenza can get pretty out of hand if left unchecked. I also think that if you caan deal with Siege Rhino as well then you should also be fine because a 4/5 Trampling creature can be bad news especially with Sorin, Solemn Visitors +1 Ability. The way that you can tell which version of Abzan youre playing against is by the fact that Abzan Aggro plays Rakshasa Deathdealer while the Midrange version doesnt. -Jace-
