Hello face bookers, I havent been on here for a while so feel it - TopicsExpress

Hello face bookers, I havent been on here for a while so feel it is time for one of my raves. This is a response I wrote to a post by one of my friends Keri-An Richards. As I went a bit overboard, how unusual for me, I thought I would share it with all of you. Its about being a teacher. Yep, and we all do stuff like this every day. That kid that is a pain in the bum is a pain in the bum for a reason. That kid that is often so quiet is quiet like that for a reason. And I have to try to figure out the reason. Its my job as well as my moral and social responsibility. And just because Im a visual arts specialist and teach more than 450 kids per week does not mean I dont have a personal relationship with as many of those kids that I can because I work so hard at it to make it so. Thats why I spend all my time on yard duty talking to the kids, giving out hugs(even though we are not supposed to touch them at all) as well as band aids, encouragement as well as discipline. Thats why I talk to kids whenever they need me, talk to classroom teachers about my observations, conversations and concerns for their kids, talk to parents about their kids and try to convince them to spend time at school as it does so much for their childs self esteem. Thats why I spend endless, endless hours at home writing, editing, assessing and reading work programs, planners, emails, orders, assessments, reports, letters, memos, articles, submissions, recommendations, policies, procedures, curriculum, newsletters, etc, etc, etc, whether I need a cup of tea and a break or not. The children have to come first. Its my job. And I tell you after doing it for 30 years it is still worth all the headaches, worry, nightmares (yes I said nightmares) and sleepless nights I have about other peoples children to know that I make a difference in the lives of those children. I still love my job after all these years. And that is despite the pathetic jokes about my easy hours and long holidays and despite the lame attempts by ill informed imbeciles like Denis Napthine, our embarrassing excuse for a State Premier to introduce performance based pay for teachers which will just discourage teachers from working collegiately for the best educational environment for our students. He wants at least 20% of teaching staff per year to be chosen as unsatisfactory!!!!! And you can guarantee Ill be one of them as I continually question those further advanced in the educational heirachy as I endeavour to bring out the best in them as well as this teachers job is never done!
