Hello fellow Manning East friends, My name is David Spratte and I - TopicsExpress

Hello fellow Manning East friends, My name is David Spratte and I want to represent you and your interests and to work with you to make the Manning East Community the greatest place to live, study, and play. With your help, Manning East will be home. My esteemed associates, campaign manager (Brent Comstock), and I have worked to form a platform that will maximize the positive impact that we can have on the Manning East Community with the funds that we will be allocated to us if elected. I have already hand selected a team of highly qualified individuals to serve as Lieutenant Governor, Secretary, Treasurer, Community Enhancements Officer, and Marketing Manager. I will continue to use ‘we’ throughout because you are not voting for just me, you are voting for a group of highly skilled individuals who will lead and guide the Manning East Community to new heights, to new prosperity, and to a new state of greater happiness and quality of life. Our mission as your representatives in Community Government will be to insure domestic happiness, provide for the common needs of our peers, promote the general enjoyment of life, and secure the blessings of the funds we are allocated to ourselves and our posterity. We pledge to you that in the face of war, foreign conflict, or any outside threat that may compromise the safety and integrity of our Manning East residence’s rights, we will not back down. We are here to settle any disputes over foreign and domestic policies while also providing a campus that is a breeding ground for economic and social prosperity. We are on a solid path to a great year. Events that the RA’s have put on for us have built the foundation for a historic year in Manning East. But we are not stopping here. Our journey has only just begun. If elected as your Community Governor, I, along with my staff, will work to revolutionize the way we live, study, and play. I will implement numerous events and policies that will not only bring us together as a community, but will also serve as the standard for all other residence communities to follow. On our economic policy: Working with my treasurer, the RHA Board of Governors, and Student Government, I will work vigorously to improve the financial standing of Koury and Horton dorms by acquiring extensive funding for internal developmental projects that will make Manning East the most attractive place for work and play. All funds that are acquired will be distributed evenly between the two dorms. No one dorm will get priority over the funds. On our Domestic and Social Policy: Most important to us is to ensure that your top priorities are being addressed. While we have our own proposals and ideas, we want yours even more. That is why, if elected, we will implement an Open Door Policy. Between the hours of 9am and 5pm, my room door (Koury, 431) will always be open. After those hours, at any time of the day or night, you may knock, and if I or my roommate (who will be on my staff) are there, you will always be invited in. If you have an idea or a proposal, please, stop by to talk to me. If you don’t want to stop by, my email, phone number, and every other piece of contact information of me and of my staff will be made available to you. In addition to our Open Door Policy, we will create a Google Document that all residents can post ideas on and a suggestion box in Koury and Horton that will be collected and read over on a weekly basis. I have heard an extensive amount of complaints regarding the dorm doors. Many of you would like to keep your doors open at times throughout the day in order to get to know and become better friends with your hall mates. To accomplish this, if elected, we will ensure funding for doorstops. On the matter of bathroom doors: many have complained that they do not have locks on their doors…in many cases (I am familiar with one in particular), this can lead to awkward encounters with your roommate or suitemate. For this reason, we will ensure that bathroom door locks are installed in those rooms devoid of them. In addition to doorstops, there exist two grave dangers in every room of the Koury and Horton residence halls. If you loft your bed, then you, most likely, have hit your head numerous times on the metal bottom side of your bed. This can lead to serious injuries (i.e. concussions that can ruin two-four weeks of your life), and must be addressed. If desired by you, we will acquire funding for pads that will cover the metal parts of the bed that we are prone to hitting with our heads. Facebook. A Manning East Community Facebook Page that every single resident is a part of needs to exist in order to coordinate more cross-dorm activities, such as volleyball and basketball tournaments, ice cream socials, movie nights, and the sort. If elected, we will organize events that people from all over the UNC campus will want to be a part of. We will host a Film Festival (student made videos-modeled on the Oscars), a late-night/early morning Koury vs Horton game of Capture the Flag, a Koury-Horton Battle of the Bands (Bands, singers, piano/viola/violin/any other instrument players), and so much more. We would also like to work to implement a system within our residence community that will make forming intramural sports teams faster, easier, and better, while also promoting collaboration between the two residence halls. We will also create teams to represent our community and have our teams play against other communities, but that is infringing on the foreign policy. Let’s be honest here, I think that we have surpassed the age of ancient TV Tubes that have tiny screens and awful pictures. We think it’s time for an upgrade. Mounted plasma TV’s and blu-ray players, anyone? What about better kitchen equipment? Communal school supplies stash? A communal toilet paper supply? A break room that actually has snacks? Better ping-pong tables and paddles for Horton? A ping-pong table and piano for Koury? We are not promising this, or anything else, but rather we are proposing various ideas that, if desired by you, we will work hard to implement. On our Foreign Policy: With numerous contacts in Student Government, the RHA Board of Directors, and the other residence communities, we will foster and promote a healthy and collaborative relationship with our outside contacts. Our foreign policy in four words: Everyone is our ally. In conclusion, if elected, we pledge to uphold and live by the traditions and laws inscribed in the RHA constitution. Furthermore, we pledge not to just get the job done, but to get the job done right. As Batman says, “It’s not who we are underneath, but what we do that defines us.” We hope you will help define this year as the best year in Manning East history. Let’s leave an unprecedented mark not only at Manning East, but also at UNC as a whole. Vote Spratte for Manning East Governor 2013-2014! Thank you and Go Heels!
