Hello friends, If you can join us at the special evening prayer - TopicsExpress

Hello friends, If you can join us at the special evening prayer service on Sunday, feel free to invite any Spanish-speakers. The service will be bilingual, and the bulletin will be in both languages. Rev. Alvarado is the Bishop-Elect of the Diocese of El Salvador. Last year Kristen Hudson and Sarah Cox spent a lot of time with his wife, Rev. Irma Alvarado, who is also an Episcopal priest in El Salvador. You may recall from our report on the El Salvador Mission the group of young ladies we met through her. Rev. Irma is working with them to try and start a Library Cafe to help keep kids in their community safe. Here is a paragraph from that report: Kristen & Sarah visited several churches and schools while in El Salvador, and delivered hundreds of brand new Spanish and bilingual books to start libraries in three communities. They gave to two parochial Episcopal schools: San Miguel Arcangel, and Colegio Episcopal Cuarta Villa Anglicana, in El Maizal. Also, over 100 books were donated to a youth group called “Jovenes Unidas en Liderazco” (JUL = Youth United in Leadership), which is affiliated with the parish of San Francisco de Asis and Reverenda Irma Alvarado. The church has provided a building next to a public school Caserío El Pital, C / Entre Ríos, in Colón, La Libertad, which is affected by gang violence. The ladies of JUL have a dream to start a Library Café, where young people would be able to go for a safe place to learn and socialize. They want to sell coffee and pastries, and have a lending library to encourage literacy. I hope that many of you will turn out for this very special opportunity to host a special guest on Sunday evening. Evening Prayer: 5 PM Potluck Dinner: 5:30 PM Lets show Rev. Alvarado what great cooks we have at St. Johns!
