Hello rat people! Here are some fun (and inexpensive) enrichment ideas for your little rats :) 1. Aroma enrichment - Sprinkle some vanilla extract, perfume, etc. on cardboard or in a tissue box (remove all plastic) and your rats will love smelling it and investigating! 2. Nutritional enrichment - Cut up some fruits (I do strawberry tops and kiwi peels) and put them in a bowl with some water and freeze it overnight. They love to lick it all day long and its a good way to keep their teeth down because they will try to chew through it. (Its a good way to slow one of my boys down too because hes about 100 grams overweight.) 3. Audio enrichment - Sometimes it might be interesting to see how individual rats react to different noises, not just music but noises found in nature. I have a bird toy with a bell at the end that my rats like to jingle (at 3 am and wake me up every night...) Does anyone else have any cool ideas? Since rats can only see about 2 or 3 feet in front of them (and not all that well), it is sometimes hard to find pet store toys I find. I try to make enrichment that will stimulate their sense of smell/hearing.
