Hello, this is a campaign of varios colectives in Spain against the re-installation of the razor-wire in Ceuta and Melilla. Please send Fax and/or letter on Thursday, 21st of november to the Inner-Minister of Spain demandig him to stop immediately with the installation of razor-wire in the fences of Ceuta and Melilla (english and spanish letter attached). best greetings! Carla (for OficinaDerechosSociales, ODS, part of the platform) CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE INSTALLATION OF RAZOR WIRE IN THE FENCE OF Ceuta and Melilla Dear people The organizations that make up the Platform against institutional violence towards immigrants turn to you in order to seek your support in our protest against the governments decision to re-install razor wire ( or so called concertina ) on the fences of Ceuta and Melilla. This is an inhuman act, which was renounced in 2007 because of the extreme violence it inflicts on people who tried to cross the fence. Being a measure that only brings more pain to an already painful situation, we believe that a collective action in favor of human rights and migrants rights is urgent to realize an ACT OF ABSOLUTE REJECTION of this measure. In order to achieve this aim this platform proposes that each individual and collective sends a letter and a fax to the Minister of the Interior of Spain, Jorge Fernandez Diaz, denouncing the re-installation of the in-humane razor wire fence. Below you can see an example letter which you can use or alternatively write your own letter. There are also various fax numbers and addresses. The platform will present this letter to the government on the 21st of November, so please send a fax on that date. C/ Amador de los Ríos, 8, 28010 - Madrid (Madrid) Fax: 915372410 __-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ OPEN LETTER TO MR. JORGE FERNANDEZ DIAZ, INTERIOR MINISTER OF GOVERNMENT OF SPAIN, DEMANDING HIM TO STOP THE INSTALLATION OF RAZOR WIRE ON THE FENCE OF CEUTA AND MELILLA For the attention of the Interior Minister: The individuals and groups that work in favor of human rights and migrants do not understand or share border policies that both the European Union and Spain practice. We stand totally against the methods of externalization and defense that are implemented at the border and we argue that decisions affecting the fence of Ceuta and Melilla are entirely incomprehensible and inhumane. The results of these policies both European and Spanish are dead bodies of migrants in seas and deserts. The re-installation of the razor wire or concertina, is the reason why we turn to you today as a representative of the government of Spain in this matter. The concertina is a inhuman violent system, urgently rejected in 2007 because it caused deaths and serious injury of many migrants trying to cross the borders. This is an instrument that will seriously jeopardize the lives and safety of the people, because, as once informed the Ombudsman of Spain its purpose is to cause bodily harm to those who try to break through the fences. It appears that all the investment in sophisticated means of detection and border surveillance, including the new Eurosur, have not served for anything. Consequently you have resolved to incorporate past methods, which are even more agressive means of boder control. These methods have resulted in a Fortress Europe. The results are evident, more than 20, 000 deaths in the Mediterranean. As a democratic society we cannot allow the implementation of razor wire as this action is against basic human rights. Mr. Minister: THESE MEASURES DO NOT PREVENT PEOPLE CROSSING THE BORDER. YOU CANNOT STOP HUNGER WITH RAZOR BLADES OF BLOOD. The testimonies of migrants who have made it over the fences and suffered its consequences attest: Were already dead, without future, Im here to enter Europe. It is my only goal and I will not stop until I achieve it; What can I loose? I have nothing. Mr. Minister, the bottom line is going to the source of the problem, which is not in Melilla, Ceuta, but in Europe and its relationship with African countries. For all these facts, we demand that you reject the re-installation of the razor wire blade system on the fences of Ceuta and Melilla. The re-installation will only cause more deaths and suffereing, nothing else. It will be a black point more to add to border policies around Europe. NO MORE DEATHS BECAUSE OF BORDERS! Yours sincerely
