Hello valued partners, Good news. Please be informed that the project themed Youth Challenge Project:Encouraging Economic Independence among Youths which you opted to collaborate on has been given a conditional approval by the National Agency. In due course we will be giving you a detailed information regarding the project. However, please see a preview of the synopsis and briefs below. YOUTH CHALLENGE PROJECT:ENCOURAGING ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE AMONG YOUTHS Recent developments in unemployment at European and Member State levels shown an estimate that 26.654 million men and women in the EU-28, of whom 19.231 million in the Euro area were unemployed in July 2013. This is far worse in Neighbouring EU countries, where large populations of young people are waiting to migrate to EU. Among the Member States, the lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Austria (4.8 %), Germany (5.3 %) and Luxembourg (5.7 %), and the highest rates in Greece (27.6 % in May 2013) and Spain (26.3 %). Compared with a year ago, the unemployment rate increased in seventeen Member States and fell in eleven. The highest increases were registered in Cyprus (12.2 % to 17.3 %), Greece (23.8 % to 27.6 % between May 2012 and May 2013), Slovenia (9.3 % to 11.2 %) and the Netherlands (5.3 % to 7.0 %). (Eurostats Guidelines) Given these trends in Europe and with no convincing difference in Neighbouring EU countries, young people, youth workers trainers, youth leaders, project multipliers and representatives of partner countries while on M4A Motivate for Action: Intercultural Dialogue through Sports Project organized by V2020 and held in Lakeside Cumbria in August 2013 reflected upon these economic woes and abnormalities and opined that in line with EUs position and commitment to reduce youth unemployment, there is a contribution to be made; however little this may be decided to develop YCP collaborating with a group of young people who attended some of our projects in the past and are committed to replicating some of the skills acquired from the projects Fostering entrepreneurial dynamics among young people, leaders, trainers, youth workers, project multipliers etc from varied socio-cultural backgrounds aligns with European Union priority of creating employment for young people with fewer advantages and encouraging economic mobility within EU and neighbouring EU countries, by exposing them to entrepreneurial and business opportunities; such as T-shirts, Video/Photography making , Trading/buying and selling opportunities by exploring sites such as Alibaba, e-sourcing, supplying to government, European Union and buying items/products from producers and companies especially in China etc. YCP will showcase the importance of networking to business opportunities through the encouragement of entrepreneurial activities among youth workers, trainers etc with fewer opportunities, this will on a long run make them independent, build their self confidence and esteem, take them of welfare packages and invariably contribute to the economy of their respective countries. The European Union (EU) has a range of policy instruments, including legislation, policy coordination and funding that can be activated with a view to promoting the socio economic inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities; yet, there is widespread agreement that in spite of the surge of political attention to this issue, European policies both at the EU and Neighbouring countries do not seem to have touched poor and disadvantaged communities to the extent required. Hence, there is an urgent need for local involvement, a vacuum which YCP is set to fill to empower and create sustainable employment and economy for these group of marginalized young people. YCP seeks to provide a way forward with regard to one of the most promising strategies for the social emancipation, empowerment and inclusion of young people with economic and social challenges. Without denying the relevance of the complex set of problems which impacts on the situation of these group of young people in inner city areas and among potential migrant population in partner countries, economic mainstay is a critical determinant of attitudinal changes of these group of young people for the rest of their lives. YCP therefore proposes a comprehensive approach to give poor and excluded young people from UK and target group from partner countries a good start in life and set them on a positive trajectory. The most recent scientific findings on Youth Unemployment provides a strong, evidenced-based underpinning to act on Europe’s commitment on youth employment, empowerment, social inclusion, including business opportunities and self reliance ventures planned to set these group of young people on solid economic grounds encourage youth mobility within EU and neighbouring EU countries and stem illegal migration. YCP evidenced by lack of involvement of youths in productive activities will provide an impactful skills training for these group of young people thereby making an important contribution to a key ambition of the Europe 2020 Strategy aiming to create employment avenues and ventures thereby fostering an economic, vibrant young people and inclusive and bonded society.
