Help Me Grow offers the following guidelines that may signal a child is not developing typically, and should have a developmental screening: * Parent concern about developmental progress or delay(s) in meeting developmental milestones * Diagnosed physical or mental condition or disorder that has a high probability of resulting in developmental delay – regardless of whether the child has a demonstrated need or delay * Lack of eye contact * No back and forth gestures – pointing, showing, reaching or waving – by 12 months * Behavioral concerns; poor attention span; inability to follow simple instructions * No speech, or few words, compared to other children of same age; unintelligible speech * Poor balance, clumsiness, weakness; atypical muscle tone (too tight/too floppy in limbs or trunk) * Unusual or repetitive play schemes; loud or unusual vocal patterns * Extreme sensory (touch, movement) aversions or repetitive seeking of sensory input * Prematurity (birth weight at 1500 grams/3 pounds, 5 ounces or less) * Hearing and/or vision problems * Failure to thrive; high lead level
