Help a Mom Out: She writes: I took my 7 year old to get paperwork for the first step to get him diagnosed for ADHD. I know he has it, I have it, my mother and uncle have it. So. I see myself in him. Granted he is my step son and not blood related but ADHD isnt picky. Anyway... my mother in law is completely against me getting him checked.. continuously says oh no he is just a slow learner.. no he os just hyper. No im sorry but its not that. He cant focus to save his life. His frustration level is so high because he cant focus to understand whats going on. He struggles with learning, (in tutoring for reading) he fights me for everything. It honestly breaks my heart because ive been there. He has a really bad case of the I cant help its because he cant. My MIL thinks im a terrible person and that im gonna drug my child and he doesnt need anything. Im at my wits in. I try to remember that she is def uneducated when it comes to this. Any advise on how to deal with family who are uneducated/think they know but have not a clue about whats going on.
