Help us to free 7 Hostages abducted in Ashraf Dear Friends, On September 1st, 2013 a crime against humanity was committed by Iraqi forces, under the orders of Prime Minister Maliki, in Camp Ashraf, Iraq, home to members of the Iranian opposition movement. During the attack by armed assassins against 100 defenceless and unarmed asylum-seekers, whose status as protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention had been recognized by the United States, 52 people were atrociously slaughtered in extrajudicial and mass execution while they were shot in the head at close range and some were killed while handcuffed. Those responsible for this crime naturally ought to be brought to justice after an independent, neutral and transparent investigation. We are very concerned about the seven innocent refugees including six women who were kidnapped by the Iraqi forces and as lately confirmed by the UNHCR, the EU and one of the US commanders with links to Iraq, they were first taken to a prison near Baghdad Airport and later continuously relocated in order for the UNHCR to lose track of them. They are currently being tortured, harassed and mistreated and they face extradition to Iran which will make them face further torture and execution. At the moments many of the 3000 residents in cam Liberty are on their 26th day of hunger strike. Also in several cities: Geneva, London, Berlin, Ottawa, …people have staged hunger strikes. We are very worried about them. The most urgent demands of the Liberty residents and the Iranian resistance are: 1- The immediate release of these 7 hostages. Based on specific, repeated and widespread information, the hostages are in the hands of Iraqi government. The U.S., the EU, and the UN must make it clear to the Iraqi government that suppression of Iranian refugees in Iraq and holding the hostages would have serious repercussions for its economic and political relations. 2- Ensuring protection for camp Liberty against future attacks by Iraqi and Iranian regimes. A UN monitoring team and UN Blue Helmet forces must be posted inside Camp Liberty at all hours of the day, because without the presence of a third party at Liberty, there can be no conceivable security. It is absolutely necessary that European countries would take a firm position on this to prevent any further aggression on the remaining refugees and to call for the release of these hostages and international protection for the remaining inhabitants in Camp Liberty near Baghdad airport. If they are deported to Iran, same tragedy could than recur in a much larger scale for the remaining 3000 defenseless and currently unprotected refugees in Liberty. I would like to ask you to urge your own government and Mrs Ashton to put pressure on Iraq to release these 7 hostages. Making public statements by your government and international organizations as well as diplomatic efforts are very useful. Please keep us informed. Many thanks, Firouz Mahvi
