Help us to save the old convent building! The Loreto nuns have moved out of the old convent building and chapel and the building has been vacant since. For all of you who remember it, it was a beautiful property in its prime. Do you remember the wonderful smells that used to spill out from the kitchen and waft up the corridors to torment us all? Were you one of thousands who made the exodus to the chapel during exam time to pray feverishly to St Jude?? Did you have a class retreat upstairs in the Nuns prayer room where you feel asleep because it was just the calmest, warmest, most tranquil place in the world at that moment? Well, the management and Board of Governors of Loreto College have been offered the convent & chapel and hope to integrate it back into the College itself. Like us, they recognise and want to be true to the unique ambiance of the building, its tranquility and its sense of being a special place, away from the maddening crowd. We intend to use the funds raised at the Loreto 85th Anniversary Ball to fund the refurbishment of the old convent into a pastoral care & learning support centre, and depending on the funds raised we may be able to include a sixth form common room and make it a fantastic well-being centre for all the current and future pupils. Past pupils will also be able to use the newly refurbished space for events, training etc as we hope to offer the space for external use at weekends or in the evenings.
