Helpless: Such a simple word, and used quite often for simple explanations. I was helpless to stop that driver from cutting me off, I am helpless, I can’t change the economy. But the word can reach much further into almost oblivion to describe an emotion that can totally paralyze us, make us speechless, and unable to even communicate the degree of helplessness we feel. If we could help, we would go to the end of the world, whatever it would take, but this situation leaves no such out. And there are simply no words to describe the depth of this level of helplessness., and the pain this emotion and frustration causes us. Recently, I shared news of my sons cancer diagnosis with all of my family and friends. Almost immediately I received beautiful words of sympathy, encouragement, and offers to do anything I asked to help. Nearly all responses included the phrase “ I just don’t know what to say” I want you all to know, that I understand how you feel, your words are not hollow to me, I know exactly what it feels like to feel that helpless. Imagine if you will how I feel when speaking to Page, when he has to muster the strength to tell me that things aren’t good. I struggle so hard to know what to say, I feel guilty if I cry and guilty when I don’t I hate that feeling more than any other feeling in the world. Helpless…… I know that each and every one of you would do anything within your power to help, I am so blessed to have friends and family all very good and loving people. I hear your despair, and I understand your feelings. Sharing your feelings and emotion has helped so much, as I process my own feelings, and your words are very much appreciated.
