Henry Ford Academy: Alameda School for Art + Design Showcases San Antonio’s Creative Leaders on the Rise at its Inaugural Night of the Arts on May 30th Henry Ford Academy: Alameda School for Art + Design high school students will present a curated collection of their best work in visual and performing arts from the 2013-2014 school year at the school’s inaugural Night of the Arts (NOTA). The exhibition is free and open to everyone. Guests will see intriguing self-portraits, reimagined movie posters, and other vibrant artwork and enjoy performances by the school’s theater department, including monologues, duets, and a live singing performance by senior Madeline Garcia, the recently-awarded recipient of the Robert Redford Scholarship at Santa Fe University for Art and Design. The HFA: Alameda School student body also includes a 2013 Scholastic Art Awards national gold medalist, a 2014 Poetry Out Loud national finalist, 2014 TCSAAL Performing and Visual Arts Competition 1st place winners, and 2014 TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) 1st place winners who will have work on display. HFA: Alameda School is San Antonio’s tuition-free college prep high school focused on fine/performing arts and serves students in grades 9-12. The school’s arts programs have captured the attention of nationally recognized colleges and universities; ninety percent of the seniors in HFA: Alameda School’s Class of 2014 have already been accepted to highly regarded institutions, such as Rhode Island School of Design, CalArts, Arizona State, Hofstra University, Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, and Loyola University, and in total have been awarded more than $1,000,000 in scholarships. WHAT: Visual and performing arts exhibition featuring work from students in grades 9-12. The event is free and open to everyone.
