Henry Ford was a successful businessman and a wealthy individual. Yet despite his great affluence, he believed more in influence. This was perfectly summarized in one of his famous quotes: “The highest use of capital is not to make more money, but to make money do more for the betterment of life.” No greater example of Henry Ford’s philosophy can be found than in the incredibly generous and compassionate members of the Wade Hampton Golf Club. For the past four years, contributors to the Wade Hampton Donor Advised Fund have given nearly a half-million dollars to worthy non-profits in our community. Their charitable contributions have helped support families and social services, health and wellness programs, education initiatives, community organizations and environmental causes. Yesterday evening I was honored to represent our Humane Society to receive a $5,000 grant from the Wade Hampton Donor Advised Fund for the third consecutive year. This much-needed and greatly appreciated donation will help fund the food, housing and veterinary costs for the additional 40-50 animals we will be able to give safe refuge and care for at our no-kill shelter in 2015 with the opening of our new Adoption Center. On behalf of the hundreds of abandoned, abused and neglected animals that CHHS rescues and finds forever homes for each year, THANK YOU Wade Hampton Donor Advised Fund! We are proud and honored to be your friends and neighbors. Your kindness, compassion and generosity are among the many reasons that make our little piece of paradise in the mountains of western North Carolina such a great place to live.
