Henry Kachaje points out some of sins initiated by MCPs rule, which are refusing to die now. For us to step forward, we need a party that can turn this around. He wrote: We adopted the democratic type of govt in 1994. Sadly, we did not dismantle the one-party system of governing. 1) We have a party that wins more votes than others and it calls itself the ruling party and yet there are other parties also represented in the other arm of govt called Parliament! 2) The state (party) control over MBC, a public broadcaster that runs on tax payers money is another hangover from the one-party system of govt. In a democracy, MBC should NEVER be a mouth-piece of one single party when it is funded by everyone including those in opposition 3) During the one-party era, we had the Youth League, who simply changed names to Young Democrats, Morale Youth, you name it. But their conduct is still largely the same: a political party youth wing of terror 4) During the one party system, the police was used to unleash terror on those deemed opposing. This is still the same case in our so called democracy I can go on and on, but fellow Malawians, UNTIL we dismantle the one-party system of governance, we cannot see democracy work to the benefit of all people in this nation. We need to deal with the system first and our democracy will work.
