Henry Winter: To be considered one of the greats, do you have to - TopicsExpress

Henry Winter: To be considered one of the greats, do you have to do it at a World Cup? Michael Owen: Not to me. I’ve played with some players who’ll never win a trophy in their life, let alone the World Cup, but they are probably some of the best players. Steven Gerrard has won the Champions League, may not win the World Cup, has never won the Premier League but he’s one of the greats because of his ability. Dwight Yorke: Maradona and Pele both won the World Cup. So the perception is that to be one of the greats you always have to lift that iconic trophy at the World Cup. Dietmar Didi Hamann: If Ronaldo or Messi want to be classed with Beckenbauer, Maradona and Pele as one of the all-time greats they have to win the World Cup.
