Herbs to know, herbs to grow: A year round medicinal: Pine Pine needles are rich in Vitamin C, high in Vitamin A and antioxidant beta-carotene. Pine has analgesic, antiseptic, and antiviral properties. Pine needle tea was used to combat scurvy (a vitamin c deficiency). The tea is great for colds and respiratory infections. It helps expel phlegm. Its also heat for the flu because it contains high amounts of shikimic acid (the basis for Tamiflu) To make pine needle tea: Grab a bunch of pine needles from the tip of a branch. Line them up on a cutting board and cut off the bottom (part connecting them to the branch) chop into smaller sections Boil water and pour on top of the needles. Let steep for 10-15 minutes. Give it a stir and press needles with a spoon up against the edge of the cup. Strain and enjoy!! You can add any sweetener you would like. I find it is sweet enough for me so I dont use any :)
