Herding Leaves - I’m tired of herding leaves. I didn’t feel - TopicsExpress

Herding Leaves - I’m tired of herding leaves. I didn’t feel this way back in October when the leaves began to fall from their autumn splendor. I got out the ole back-pack leaf blower with 7500 crankators of power and headed out to our tree-covered property. Within a short time the job was completed, revealing the beautiful green grass carpeting the ground beneath the colorful glory of the trees. But, that was October. Now I look out the front window to see the ground covered with the brown litter from above. I have to drag myself to the garage, strap the 7500 pound leaf blower on my back, and face the little critters for the third time this week. Someone suggested that I wait until all the leaves fall and do the job one time. Obviously, an amateur herder. That may work if you have one nine-foot high maple in the front yard but if I did that I would need a bulldozer to get the job done. Additionally, you do not have to be a professional leaf herder like me to know that the wind can work with you or against you. For some reason this year the wind continually shifted after I started the job so that I was always trying to move the leaves into the wind. Herding leaves into the wind is like herding starlings. Once you get them off the ground they go in all different directions. And a bit of advice for the novice herder, yelling at the wind will not make it change directions. I’m sure that all of us have jobs we quickly tire of. It may be mowing the grass, cooking meals, doing dishes, milking the cows, or cleaning house. I don’t doubt that many become weary from going to their places of employment. I think that is reasonable. There is, however, one area where we should not become weary. The Apostle Paul says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially those who belong to the family of believers” (Galatians 6:9-10).
