Here also the prospect was poor, as not more than six persons in the town understood German, Upon my remark that there were Germans here I received for answer, these belong to no church. On this account I considered preaching the more necessary for the dear German brethren, I hunted them up, met with a very discouraging reception from some, yet I succeeded in getting together in the evening a considerable congregation, from several families and the word according to the outward appearance, manifested its accustomed power Upon the heart. I was able after the sermon to speak with them a long time concerning my dear Saviour and my earnest request to them to hallow the sacred day of the Lord, by means of united worship, rather than to desecrate it in taverns, was cheerfully receIVed and acceded to with the promise to follow my counsel The Lord grant that they may keep their promise.
