Here are a series of photos documenting the progress of the mural dedicated to the Divine Feminine by Shrine and Amanda Sage for the Boom Festival 2014, Portugal… 120ft long by a jagged 7-12ft up-cycled floor that was previously used in a structure of the healing area of Boom. Shrine and I have done multiple paintings together since 2010, but never something this big! This was my first large scale piece and I am so grateful for the opportunity. It took us about 2 weeks to complete. He arrived 5 days ahead of me and laid down the foundation. We are professional free stylists and since we did not know much about what we would be painting on and all that jazz, we waited for the muse within the moment to inspire our dance. I arrived 6 days before the festival opened straight out of teaching for 3 weeks in Italy. The wall was the body of a dragon, which housed the Museum of Visionary Art and the theme of the Boom this year was the Divine Feminine. Shrine built up layers of pattern reminiscent of a Bedouin circus tent and I played with my favorite friend, white paint in translucent shades of optical greys… The spirit of the dragon fierce, at peace and beautifully aware is holographically co-existing with the fractaled, psychedelic nature which lies at the bass note of reality. The praying women are in reverence for all that is … the hummingbirds representing the delicate divinity of life. From the scream to the flat yet spacious candy land space at the far left of the mural, our styles merge to create a greater we… a vision beyond just one of us. In this lies a kind of potential for exploring the collective genius… Of all the high powered conversations that happened in our egg shack studio and around the mural, to the epic sunsets every day… this was a high octane experience that I will never forget. I bow deep to my dear friend Shrine whom I cherish with an inspired heart… to all those silent moments we shared in front of that blackberry bush gazing into the belly of the dragon. This is just the beginning… May our collaborations seed love, freedom and ignition of hope… Next step Gaza? Afghanistan? Africa? India? Philippines? Nepal? Colombia? Los Angeles? Miami?… Motions are in the works… we are infected with a desire to bring art where there is none… My friend Romio Shrestha said the other day that Real art is done with the Heart… I couldnt agree more
