Here are pictures of Thomas Giannettino’s triathlon cycling jersey and it is just amazing that he has the Code 9 shield on it! Thomas was a NY State Trooper and he was injured in the line of duty and now has to deal with a disability and suffers from PTSD but that is not stopping Thomas from doing all that he can to help himself and others. I am so inspired by Thomas and his story!! Thomas writes: In September Ill be competing in the 2014 US Paratriathlon National Championship. Paratriathlon is basically the same as swimming, biking and running for abled body athletes but para means the athletes are physically challenged. To be eligible for this race I had to qualify last year with a fast enough time to meet the minimum time qualification. If you didnt know in Feb 2013 after being in such a dark place due to my physical injury, depression and PTSD I decided that I needed to find the hardest physical challenge that I could think of and that was triathlons. So I went to a pool and started to learn how to swim with just my one arm. Then incorporating the training of biking and running it was a great physical and mental challenge to help my deal with my life. Thanks to Dare2tri a paratriathlon club in Chicago, I learned all about the sport and it got me on my way to recovering. Also, Im border line disabled to International Paralympic standards. But, in September I will be physically classified by their medical board. If Im not disabled enough, then I race in the physically challenged Open division.
