West is one of the Senators who aided with the filibuster push after it was busted by raising points of inquiry and order to stall until the clock ran out on SB5 last week. Senator Wests asks in response to Laubeunburg’s claim that those clinics who would be affected by the new rules have a year to come up to the new standards. “Where do they get the money from?” He is asking where the clinics will get money to meet the requirements and manage to stay open. “You cannot mandate something from the state without taking the responsibility to fund it” “It is important to identify how much money it will cost to raise these clinics to that standard.” Laubenberg” It will basically be the cost of adding a generator, or adding some elements... West: We all know there are more requirements than that Senator… that being said maybe there’s an expert who can identify the costs of the upgrades. Basically West and others are trying to point out that the closing of clinics is inevitable and will affect health care access for many women because of the costs of the new "standards". Which we all know that is the purpose of the bill. Laubenburg, Perry, Dewhurst and others are trying to push to close these clinics.
