Here are some seminal poles from the very early 70’s, used during the waning years of wooden racing skis … Scott competition aluminum ski poles. These poles took the racing scene by storm in 70 or 71 (if I’m not mistaken). Prior to these poles, most everyone used bamboo ski poles. My father bought these poles for me in 1972 when I was a sophomore in high school. He said that when I won a ski race he’d buy me a pair of Scott poles (to replace my high school issued bamboo poles). I had to work hard to get these ski poles, because winning a ski race in VT in the 70’s was not easy (thanks largely to the Putney/Southern VT crew).
