Here are some strategies for becoming a more positive person: Find a role model. We all know people who seem to make the best of any situation. Observe their reactions to tough situations. Ask them how they maintain a positive attitude and copy their behaviors. Practice positive self-talk. The self-talk messages you allow to run through your head will be reflected in your behaviors. Wear a rubber band on your wrist and give yourself a gentle snap every time you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts about yourself or someone else. Then immediately replace those thoughts with positive ones, even if you dont necessarily believe them at that moment. Youre changing your habit and that takes practice. Garbage in, garbage out. Dont fill your mind and heart with junk messages. Whether youre aware of it or not, what you see, hear and read has a profound effect on how you feel about yourself and the world around you. Choose movies and television programs that are funny or inspirational. Read books containing messages of wisdom or encouragement. Listen to radio stations with formats that uplift you instead of talk shows hosted by angry, bitter, cynical people. Grow your faith. People who have developed faith in a higher power live more peaceful lives because they have hope. The burdens of this world can be pretty overwhelming. I have to believe that someone far greater than me is helping me to shoulder the burdens and giving me hope for my future, both here on earth and beyond. Develop an Attitude of Gratitude. Make a list of all the good things in your life and be grateful for what you do have instead of focusing on what you dont have. My list includes a place to live, food, good health, a close friend, my family, etc. Before you fall asleep at night, review your list and say a word of thanks to your higher power.
