Here are some tips for editorials for the Lion Magazine. The LION Magazine (British Isles & Ireland edition) relies on the contributions of Clubs and members. Obviously every article and photograph cannot be published as we do not have space to include everything. Remember that it takes some time to put together, print and distribute each edition - so give us plenty of notice of your news and ideas. It is the job of a magazine editor to decide what to include, but you can increase the likelihood of your news and feature ideas making it into the Magazine by following our helpful tips and advice on what makes a good LION Magazine article. A compelling story: Like any publication, if you have a really interesting story that will be of interest to the majority of LION magazine readers, it is more likely to be included. We are interested in news and feature stories relating to successful projects and fund-raising activities, particularly when these involve original ideas, record-breaking achievements, interesting participants or something that is a little bit unusual. Remember to include details of the 5Ws (who, what, where, when and why) when explaining the story. Remember to include key information, such as the amount of money raised. Focus on the benefits to the local community and how your story made a difference. Think about what other Lions may wish to know about your initiative and provide a contact for further information. An eye-catching image: As they say, a picture paints a thousand words. So think about how we can illustrate a story with an eye-catching photograph or other image (for example an infographic). We are looking for good quality images (300dpi, jpg or png) which are clearly composed and engaging. Sometimes a photograph with a short caption is all that is needed to tell the story. Try to avoid the typical cheque handover or row of Lions standing in front of a banner and submit more imaginative images. Look for opportunities to take candid shots of Lions and members of the public enjoying activities, or photographs that show how any money raised will be used. Include the names and other details of people included in any photograph and ensure if necessary, that permission has been given for the image to be published. You can also download a copy of a photographic consent form here. Remember your photographs can be entered into the annual xxx photographic competition, so take the time to get good photographs wherever you can. Behind the scenes insight: Everyone likes to know the secret of success. So consider submitting feature ideas that show how a project or initiative came about and what made it a success. Challenges, over-coming adversity, responding to a local community need, getting a new project off the ground or reinvigorating an existing initiative all offer the potential for a good feature piece. Wed love to hear personal experiences of those whove been involved in one of Lions Clubs major projects or partnerships. This can help inspire and engage other Lions in future opportunities as well as demonstrate the value of getting involved. Copyright © 2014 MD105 Lions Clubs Members Area
