Here are some tips to savoring the holiday season brought to you by our onsite dietitian, Dana Notte. 1. Select foods with intention. Remind yourself that you can choose to have any food that you’d like, but that youre not obligated to try every dish at the holiday table. Ask yourself, which foods do you look forward to this time of year? Which foods look the tastiest? Which dishes will you enjoy the most? Start with those items. 2. Practice mindfulness. Holiday eating is often paired with conversation and other distractions, making it easy to overeat without realizing it. Slow down and appreciate the taste, texture and aromas of each item. Often, we eat foods we don’t even enjoy because we aren’t paying attention. When we take time to be present while eating, we’re often satisfied with smaller portions. 3. Resign from the Clean Plate Club. Giving yourself permission to enjoy any food you’d like is not the same as eating in excess. Listen to your body. When you start to feel full, stop eating, even if there is food left on your plate. You can always save your food for later!
