Here are the 10 books that have changed my life. Doing this not - TopicsExpress

Here are the 10 books that have changed my life. Doing this not just because MayLee Lim tagged me but also because its quite fun to read others! 1. Dracula by Bram Stoker No other, I repeat, NO OTHER novel can quite recreate the atmosphere of horror evoked by Mr Stoker in this undying classic (see what I did there?). 2. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes Lets just say I have never cried so hard reading a book since Sirius Blacks death! This book makes you question a lot of things i.e. what would you do if you find yourself in a similar situation? and the case for OR against assisted suicide. For such a heavy subject however, its also written in a non-objective and clear, straightforward manner that will keep you reading well into the night. Preferably with a box of tissues handy. T_T 3. Matilda by Roald Dahl Hats off to the grand maestro of good storytelling! He is proof that a great imagination and good writing chops are sometimes ALL you need to produce an utterly riveting tale. 4. The Mall by Grey S.L. To categorize this as an horror fiction is quite blasphemous, as it reads more like a social commentary on todays society. That is not to say that it didnt creep and gross me out during some parts though, the way a good horror novel should... Urgh hello there, my slight automatonophobia. 5. Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella The funniest chick-lit I have ever read! Too bad the same cant be said for the subsequent titles... Therefore, psst, will welcome any other funny chick-lit recommendations! 6. The Stand by Stephen King You know what else will be blasphemous? If I didnt include any from one of the most prolific authors of all time, who also happens to be one of my favorites. I am not going to lie though; The Stand does suffer from having way too many characters and too many unnecessary, plodding scenes, which would explain its 1200-odd page. But plow through anyway, because reward is in the form of a satisfyingly rich and deep story that will stay with you long after you finished it. 7. 1984 by George Orwell This is one book that warrants multiple reads, not because youre dumb or anything but because its bursting at the seams with ideas and perspectives! You wont be able to absorb everything at one go... not that you will want to anyway! 8. A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson Science has never been more entertaining... To quote Albert Einstein, if you cant explain it to a six-year-old, you dont understand it yourself. Also here because I couldnt help but feel super smug after reading it. Haha! Okay, this is getting a bit tough... 9. The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest by Stieg Larsson I was gonna list the entire series but thatd be cheating so I just picked my favorite of the lot. Best. Courtroom Drama. Ever! And such a satisfying ending to it too, especially if you have read the first two in the series. 10. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery I dont know for sure if this book is intended for children, which is weird considering the fact that its an allegory but anyhow, its one that I will re-read again to remind myself of some very simple truths and philosophies in life. :) Other books that almost made the list: The Picture of Dorian Grey, Defending Jacob, Life of Pi, Love in the Time of Cholera and Liseys Story. I tag... EVERYONE who has read this.
