Here are the dredge fill areas in the area that we now know of as Centennial Park & related area. I am including the area of West Elementary in this as it abuts the Centennial Park area and its overflow was into Whiskey Ditch. One of these areas overlaps another. At a later time, more fill was added. And the area was repeatedly dug up, hauled away and filled in again! Hows that for double use of space? Almost the whole area of Centennial Park from the shoreline to Oxford is filled with silt. There was some high ground on the SE that was not filled. There was a section next to Whiskey Ditch near its mouth that was not filled. Even 10th Avenue and Clary Street are on top of silt. It you come West on either 9th St, Okabena St.or 10th Avenue you will see a distinct rise in the level of the land. Some of that was original lay of the land and my earliest definitions of these areas are corrected to take out those high ground areas as they would not likely have been diked up and filled. There may be additional fill areas. These are all I know about in this vicinity. The Southern and Eastern boundaries of the West Elementary fill area are up for debate. The present boundaries are based upon a discussion with Randy Griffith, John Tille, Tom Tracy and Ray Crippen relying upon a conversation with the property owner at the SW corner of 11th Avenue and Turner Street. Can you shed some light on this? Perhaps if you went to the Presbyterian Church you saw enough of this area to recall? The present map is more current more accurate and soon will replace anything I have on Internet as part of wgtn.net and lakeokabena. There is a Google Map showing each impoundment area in the Centennial Park vicinity. I made it public at: https://mapsengine.google/map/edit?mid=zLSOE6W-xHXc.kZjuHZAlPNvA
