Here are the words of a Motion going before the Clarence Valley Council this week. PROPOSED MOTIONThat Council write to the Premier, NSW Planning Minister, Deputy Premier, Minister for Trade and Investment, Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Services and Minister for North Coast, Minister for Primary Industries, Minister for the Environment, Member for Clarence, and cc all NSW Government MP’s calling for1. All Petroleum Exploration Licenses (PEL’s) in the Clarence Valley to be revoked, and2. Declare ‘no go zones’ for mining and gas in our drinking water catchments and to protect our rivers, streams, wetlands and groundwater, and3. Declare ‘no go zones’ for mining and gas on our productive farmland and in areas where it will have a negative impact on local business, and4. Declare ‘no go zones’ for mining and gas development in our iconic conservation areas, state forests and travelling stock routes, and5. An amendment to the Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991 to make risks or harm to prime agricultural farmland and rural residential areas grounds for suspension or cancellation of a petroleum title.
