Here are three tips for today’s Channel 4 televised racing in Sandown and Chester. Tidal’s Baby – 2.05 Sandown Currently best odds of 7/1 Tidal’s Baby will need some luck in this big-field handicap given his style of running but a stiff five furlongs should be ideal and he arrives at the top of his game. The Tony Carroll-trained four-year-old cut down his rivals late when gaining his first turf win in a handicap over six furlongs at Windsor last month, and he took a big leap forward - despite racing from out of the weights - to land a twenty-runner similar event at Goodwood (five furlongs) on his latest outing. The smooth-travelling Tidal’s Baby showed a good attitude on that most recent start, having come off the bridle before most, and ultimately scored with a bit hand, which means another rise in the handicap may not be enough to stop him landing his third race in four starts. The booking of Paul Hanagan for the first time catches the eye, too. Smart Daisy K – 2.20 Chester Currently 2nd favourite at 5/1 Smart Daisy K was just outstayed over six furlongs at this track last time, and the drop back to five and a half furlongs should enable her to continue her progress in this twelve-runner handicap. Andrew Hollinshead’s three-year-old has been an improved performer this term, building on her first two starts when beating a subsequent winner in a similar race at Haydock last month, and she was even better still when third in a handicap at this course on her latest one. Smart Daisy K remains one to be positive about – she runs off BHA mark just 1 lb higher and is Timeform top-rated for this contest – and is fairly drawn in stall seven, so a bold show can be expected, especially with jockey Shane Kelly’s record on the filly reading a win and three seconds from five rides. Top Notch Tonto – 2.55 Chester Currently at 8/1 on Bet2Go Richard Fahey holds a strong hand in this handicap over seven and a half furlongs with Brae Hill and Alejandro, but the vote goes to the revitalised Top Notch Tonto, who has a running style which should see him fully effective at this track, and remains on a very reasonable mark. Prominent-racer Top Notch Tonto – drawn in the middle in stall eight – has stepped up since joining Brian Ellison, a heavily-backed favourite when winning a mile handicap at Newmarket last month, and he had Ayaar behind him when a good second to Breden in a similar event there last time. Granted, that effort has seen Top Notch Tonto returned to a mark he has twice been beaten off in the past, but the flashy chestnut looks better than ever at present and it would be no surprise if he was capable of pulling out a bit more, his willing attitude a big help in that respect.
