Here in the SLSNZ media centre, were always on the lookout for little clubs making big. We were therefore stoked to see, on the second day of the Eastern Region champs in Whangamata, the pea-green cap of Riversdale take bronze in the open mens beach flags. Its not a new experience for the caps wearer - 22-year-old Murdoch Finch, who won bronze for Titahi Bay at the 2011 nationals - but its the first time in living memory Riversdale has featured on any beach podium. Weve had a few IRB crews but no beach competitors for a number of years now, Finch explained. Its good to get out there with the green cap and hopefully inspire the other guys at Riversdale to start some competition. Finch, who has patrolled at the exposed Wairarapa beach for the past eight years, switched back to his home club after Riversdale rejoined the Capital Coast region.
