Here is a brief description the PPS Equity Office sent. Beyond Diversity 1 is an introduction to COURAGEOUS CONVERSATION (CC) and a foundation for deinstitutionalizing racism and eliminating racial achievement disparities. A powerful, personally transforming two-day seminar for nearly 20 years, Beyond Diversity has equipped leaders, educators, students, parents, and community members to understand the impact of race on student achievement and the role that racism plays in institutionalized racial disparities. It is my hope to have a training in the N/NE part of town so we can speak knowledgeably to one another from a more informed perspective. The DWBR will be guided by the principles taught in CC. If we want to be involved in the conversation on the DWBR we need to learn the language and guidelines. Please know that this is a 12 hour commitment and will most likely be split over 4-6 weeks. PPS also noted that child care could be arranged. This is all in the beginning phase.
