Here is a fun little video I had put together last year telling the story of a morning spent with two small family bands of wild horses during the late spring months on the upper range of the Little Book Cliffs. One of those bands was Nitro and his little family and since I had recently posted some photos of this band who have recently migrated down into the lower canyons for the winter, I thought it might be of interest to show where he and his family live during the summer months.....be sure to read the story that accompanies the video, as it explains the sequence of events and the story behind this video.....and take a break form the wintery weather and enjoy a little bit of Wild Horses and Wild Flowers :) ~OPUS MOON A journey into the world of wild horses through music, songs, stories and pictures OpusMoonMusic youtu.be/8DjmSyRPtPc Published on Feb 24, 2014 As I was going through some old files on the computer, I came across some studio tracks that were created as Bill and I were in the process of recording one of our OPUS MOON songs, Wild Horses and Wild Flowers. The track consists of only mine and Bills guitar and some bass work from our producer Ken Dravis along with a click track to keep everything in time. This is NOT a finished song..... just a track we used to build upon as we completed the song.....but it was a feel good sounding little clip that I thought I could use to help tell a story about two stallions, Durango and Dash. I have been collecting video footage and photos to make a video to use with the professionally completed song, but until I can put it together, I decided to share just a few examples of the kind of moments that inspired the feelings of Wild Horses And Wild Flowers. Now, Durango and Dash are not of the same family band. Paint stallion Durango is a serious, well seasoned stallion of 14 yrs. who has done a great job of keeping his little family together. Not one of the more often seen little family bands, but seen frequently enough to be somewhat familiar with them. Next well introduce to you the young little black stallion Dash. He comes from the sorrel stallion Nitros band. In the Spring of 2013 when this video footage was taken, he was four years old and was still allowed to stay in the family unit....but no doubt he was developing ideas of striking out on his own soon. It was on this beautiful Spring morning when Durango and his family met with Nitro and his family. Durango parked his girls up on a hill and Dash broke away from his family and the two stallions met right in the middle of the park. Now you would think there would be some serious confrontation about to happen between this serious and resolute older band stallion and a young bachelor stallion coming of age...but what took place was something I never would have imagined....at least not between these two. Their greeting was very friendly and there was no animosity between them at all...the fun and games began! Durango acted like a young, care free bachelor as the two of them frolicked back and forth across the field. At one point though, they had worked their way up the hill close to Durangos girls, but Durango intercepted and made sure Dash didnt get too close or get any ideas about grabbing one of his mares. They continued their silly horse play for quite some time, still with no display of aggressive behavior between them. When they finally decided to settle things down, Durango hooked back up with his mares and stallion Nitro stood watching on the opposite side of the clearing as Dash headed back over to his family. Everyone settled in and each family went their way. What a fun morning for everyone to just enjoy life....nothing could be..sweeter than this! ~OPUS MOON
