Here is a good article by Paul The Dog Trainer, about the importance of early socialisation, and why it is important that you should know where you are purchasing your puppy from, and making sure the breeder is socialising their puppies appropriately at an early age. It is also important to know that a puppy shouldnt be separated from the rest of the litter and its mother until after 49 days (7 weeks), and ideally by 10 weeks. During the first 7 weeks, your puppy is learning how to be a dog, by its mother and the other pups. This first 7 weeks is critical to your pups early development. Early separation of the puppy from its mother and litter mates will most certainly affect your pups psychological development, and can be the reason for so many issues later in life such as, separation anxiety, anxiety issues in general, insecurity, overly submissive or dominant behaviour, and a number of other behavioural issues. Also leaving a puppy to long with its mother and pups can also affect the bonding with its new human family, and thus also creating behavioural issues as the pup grows.
