Here is a letter I have written to the US government and other stakeholders in the country. The Marketplace Building, Upper Carey Street Monrovia, Liberia Contact: 0886514209; E-mail: sarnorarchie@gmail Political Section US Embassy, Benson Street, Monrovia, Liberia November 17, 2014 Dear Sir/Madam: We present our compliments to the government and people of the United States of America, under the Leadership of President Barrack H. Obama. We are very grateful for your magnanimous support to the people of Liberia in the fight against the Ebola virus. I would like to use the opportunity to request an audience with the US Ambassador to Liberia or any official of the US government who will convey our message to the government and people of America for proper redress. If given the opportunity, our interest of discussion will center on issues that are affecting Liberia and our future as a people. Let me use this opportunity however, to elaborate on one of the key issues that have caught our attention and wish to bring to the attention of the Government and people of America. Under the laws of the republic of Liberia we do not accept dual citizenship. Mr. Robert Alvin Sirleaf, son of President Ellen-Johnson Sirleaf, holds an American citizenship, which is his right. What is worrisome though is the fact that Mr. Sirleaf is contesting in our country’s pending Senatorial election, which is totally against our country’s law. Mr. Sirleaf has been using his influence as son of the president to verbally abuse and threaten peaceful citizens. He is on record for insulting some community dwellers and threatening that he will “make their blood bled like the Ebola Virus.” That remark has since spark huge debate, causing our people to wonder his real intention. Moreover, Mr. Sirleaf has absolute control over state resources, the Executive Protection Services(EPS) being one of those, and the National Security Agency (NSA ) that is controlled by his brother Fumba Sirleaf, being very influential in government because of privileges he has as the President’s most lovely son. This is dangerous for our democracy and country. The police that should be protecting citizens are being used by Robert A. Sirleaf to intimidate and arrest members of the public. That is not the mandate of the Police that should be protecting its citizens. This information is not rumor mongering, but based on fact end evidence. Our hope is that this will help you in making and informed decision, and prove our critics wrong. I trust the United States of America’s ability to intervene in this situation; given the fact that America is a beckon of democracy and the rule of Law. Our quest to appeal for your intervention in this matter is due to the lack of respect for the rule of law by our leaders, which is leading to a complete breakdown of system in Liberia. Let me now try to inform you why we do not believe in our system to address this situation. Mr. Sirleaf is son to the current president (Ellen-Johnson Sirleaf) and it is obvious that she will manipulate the system, as she has always done, in order not to correct the ills in the system. This has been evidenced by comments that have been made by former officials of her administration. As an admirer of American Democracy, I witnessed with keen interest the case of President Barrack Obama, who was accused of been born outside of America. In order to clarify that situation, President Obama had to make his birth certificate public in order to prove his critics wrong. I am proud of such action and the level of democracy that the people of America enjoy, where leaders exhibit such transparency at all time and practice the rule of law. Therefore, we are enthusiastic about your ability to address this situation on the basis of your believability in the rule of law and promotion of democracy. we have exercise all efforts to stop Mr. Sirleaf from contesting this major election by providing evidence to the requisite authority in order to protect the rule of law, but because of the influence of his Mother and due to the fact that we are not financially portent, we have failed. Let us consider, for an example, the recent outbreak of the Ebola Virus disease that has taken the lives of many of our compatriots. Madam Sirleaf claims that the country did not have sufficient resources to combat the outbreak, but watch how her son is going from place to place desperately canvassing for his political ambition, dishing out money to people around. One is left to wonder where all of this money is coming from. Let us not forget that these are the same issues that caused conflict in our country in the past. Schools are closed. Children are home while our leader’ children are all out studying abroad. In the midst of all that, our President is pushing to hold election while calling for assistance from your government to fight the Ebola outbreak. Where are we going to get money to conduct election, when we do not have money to fight Ebola? Amidst the Ebola crisis, the President dismissed health-worker and refused to reinstate them. That, in my mind, was a clear demonstration that the President does not care about the Liberian people, but only her Family. I strongly believe that this is all in desperation for her son to get into elected office. Please help in monitoring this election when it is held, in order to help create a level playing field. Senator Prince Y. Johnson was recorded speaking to elders in his county and said that President Sirleaf called the former National Election Commissioner James Fromoyah, to twist the election in his (Senator Johnson) party’s candidates, due to political reciprocity in order to deliver the county to Madam Sirleaf during the run-off elections in 2011, and Mr. Fromoyah succeeded in the fraudulent act at the disadvantage of others. This is anti-democratic, something that could lead to conflict in the country. We are afraid that if this was possible with Senator Johnson, what more of her own Son who is in the current Senatorial race, this could also lead the country to conflict. We strongly believe that this type of deceitful and conspicuous behavior has the propensity to take Liberia backward. President Sirleaf has been one of those political leaders that fought against some of these same vices while in opposition, but unfortunately continues to practice deeds that are even worse than her predecessors. The President and her son and other family members and officials have distributed poverty to our people with no good healthcare system. We can only say thanks to our friends from the US who have intervened to help us in the fight against this deadly virus. We have tangible information that Mr. Sirleaf and his team are purchasing voters card from between US$10 to 20, in order to disenfranchise the impoverish majority. With the resources the President has acquired, and with the manner in which things are proceeding in the country, we believe that those resources will be used to infuse crisis in our beloved country. Because of the vulnerability of people in the country, we believe that they could be used to carryout violence. Madam Sirleaf has admitted that she will determine the next president of the country, a statement that should be condemned by all well-meaning Liberian and the international community. Liberians are the only ones that should determine the next president of the country. We hope that you will monitor the election to see the evil being perpetrated against our people. It is also possible others could be in the same situation as Mr. Sirleaf (dual Citizenship), but we do not have credible evidence on such persons for now. We are optimistic that you will address our concern because similar situation occurred in the case of Chucky Taylor- Son of former President Charles G. Taylor- now serving prison sentence in the United States of America for crimes he committed here in Liberia. There is a need for your urgent attention to arrest the situation. I have attached copies of Mr. Sirleaf American voter’s card, Passport Number and letter requesting residency in Liberia submitted to the Bureau on Immigration and Naturalization (BIN) as well as a CD that contains his threatening comments and copy of Senator Johnson’s statement about fraud at the NEC. Finally our effort is to allow smooth transition where people will have hope in our democracy, wherein one family will not be allowed to perpetuate power, moreover if a leader practice high level of transparency and good governance, he or she does not have to worry who succeeds him/her. We hope to hear from you as soon as this communication is received. Best regards, Archie I.
