Here is a little fix for if like me you get no cell phone - TopicsExpress

Here is a little fix for if like me you get no cell phone reception in your house: First a little info. I have found out 2 things that are causing newer cellphones to be worse and worse as actual telephones. 1. Across the country they are changing out the antennas on the cell phone towers form 3g to 4g to meet the demand of the 4g customers. The problem with this is that the 4g antennas carry more data and less cellular service, so while you might have 2-3 bars your download rates might be fantastic but you can still get dropped calls. 2. The FCC has changed the amount of emissions that a cell phone can produce on a constant basis. This means that the active signal in your phone that reaches out to make that handshake with the tower for cellular service is much weaker than it is on older phones. And just BTW an in home signal booster will not always work as it only boosts the available signal outside your home, which may or may not be the carrier waves from your companies service. Solution (that is working for me, been doing it for about 2 weeks now): I had questioned why when I am home can I use my WiFi in my house to do just about everything on my smart phone except make phone calls. Well the answer is that you can make WiFi phone calls you just have to take some steps to do it. 1. Get a gmail/Google account (welcome to 1995) 2. On Google look up "Google voice" (this is a service to allow you to make free phone calls using your computer either via WiFi or your direct internet connection) 3. Install Google voice onto your computer(s) *follow their step by step instructions* (Depending upon your cellular service you may not be able to use their forwarding feature which would forward your call to another # if your cell phone is unreachable, Metro PCS will not let you FYI. ) 4. Download and install the free app "Talkaphone" (this app connects your cell phone to your Google voice, if you already have gmail you will automatically find upon set up that all your contacts are in this app) **follow their instructions step by step, and like I said I cannot because I am with Metro PCs get it to forward to my phone through Google voice.** Once you have completed all these steps you can then activate the Talkaphone app you will see it connect to your WiFi and can then make crystal clear phone calls with your cell phone inside your WiFi zone, for me I can make it to the street. Hope this helps I have been fighting with my cellphone at home for the last 8 years.
