Here is a little insight into the testing process here at Woven Wings. and why its such an critical part of ensuring we create a fantastic product for you and your little ones. Christina and I were very excited when we learned about Escorial wool. We learned that it is a specifically shaped coil that creates incredible stretch and bounce in the wool. It sounded fantastic for wraps - in particular a summer-weight wool wrap for those of us that love wool for its temperature regulating properties! An as far as we knew, it hadnt been used by any other wrap companies. We had two testers run up in our Legacy Escorial Ikat design (pictured) and went about testing. The first time I wrapped with Escorial Ikat, I found it a bit difficult to manoeuvre because the wrap was incredibly stiff. It seemed to have a significant amount of stretch, but did not bounce back quickly. I was initially concerned with it sagging but after wearing Phineas in a FWCC for an hour and a half across London, he had not sagged at all. However, the cross pass which had stretched from nursing him had not bounced back. I continued wearing the Escorial Ikat throughout the week-- finding the same thing each time. Though softening significantly, Escorial Ikat continued to be difficult to wrap with and although not sagging, the stretched rails rarely bounced back. I tried wrapping in a FWCC, DH, Robins, Reinforced Ruck, Ellevill Jordans, and Wendys DH. The Double Hammock-- which is my go-to back carry for nap times, was the most disappointing for me. I found it difficult to pass and very difficult to tighten. And within the first hour of Phineas napping my shoulders were aching and re-tying did nothing to relieve the pressure. I did find that the Escorial wool was incredible supportive. Once in place, it held my big boy without sagging. However, the lack of bounce-back ability has Christina and I concerned. Stretch in a woven wrap is good, however, stretch without the fabric bouncing back makes us concerned that (especially in single layer carries) babies might become push the fabric significantly out of place enough that that might not be safe. Moreover, the difficulty we found in passing layers and therefore wrapping overall, gives us pause. The weave structure of the Escorial wrap may be causing some of these problems. So, we are going back to the drawing board to continue investigating other possible weaves with the Escorial Ikat that would resolve our concerns. However, we are saddened to say that for the moment, we are not releasing the Escorial Legacy Ikat wrap in its current form. All our best, Sarah & Christina
