Here is a note for all those who say that we cannot know whether or not anyone else is really saved; we can only know about ourselves: Romans 16:1-23 has a number of verses that make it clear that we can know about others who are saved. I will pick out a few statements in these verses that indicate salvation and let you look at them and draw your own conclusion. I will only use parts of these verses, because of space, but you may read the entire verses to see that I did not misuse the phrases that I have used. Romans 16:1: Phoebe, a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea.... 16;2: (Phoebe) ...a succorer of many, and of myself also. 16:3: ...Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus. 16:5: ...my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the first fruits of Achaia unto Christ. 16:7: Salute Andronicus and Junia, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me. 16:8: Greet Amplias my beloved in the Lord. 16:9: Salute Urbane my helper in Christ, and Stachys my beloved. 16:10: Salute Apelles approved in Christ. 16:11: Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet them that be of the household of Narcissus, which are in the Lord. 16:12: Salute Tryphaena and Tryphosa, who labor in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persia, which labored much in the Lord. 16:13: Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine. I will add to these Philippians 4:3: And I entreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow laborers, whose names are in the book of life. The book of life in this verse is evidently the Lambs book of life, for it would mean nothing to say that the names of these people are in the book of the living, for every person alive would be there. It seems very evident to me, for our verses above, that we can know some people, at least, who are really saved. Yes, we can be deceived by those who have made a false profession of faith, but true believers usually have enough evidence of Christs life in them to prove who they really are! It will show up on the outside! Romans 16:13 (above) says that Rufus is chosen in the Lord, and that can mean nothing else, except that he is saved!
