Here is a personality trait afflicting many in the art world: Ones inability to be around people with more success than ones self. You love a room where nobody has gone higher in the art world than you, but can you be yourself and mingle in a room where you are the lowest on the totem pole? That status-unaware mingling is not the easiest thing to master and I notice that people who teach a lot tend to really be unable to be around anyone who cannot see them as either peer or superior. Remember that peoples status and their fortunes change a lot, and a few times over the course of a decade or two in the art world. Like the poet sang Whats good is bad, whats bad is good, youll find out when you reach the top - youre on the bottom.
