Here is a photo of my dear friend Calixto, from the Aruhacos, (taller, on the right) and Mamo Luis, from the Kogi people at our home in 2012. The very interesting thing about this picture, is that at their home the two tribes do not associate. Sometimes disagree a lot, like the Navajo and Hopi. There cultures are different, yet the same in that they live by the ways of their ancestors and have the ability to communicate through transmissions. What Mamo Luis has in his hand is a papora. It is a gourd that is filled with lime that is crushed from sea shells gathered by the ocean, and coco leaf –– their sacred medicine plant. The Mamos have been trained to utilize the medicine to help them stay in contact with the Universal mind.
